A Beef: Pasture herd is a group of beef cattle that is managed together over a 12 month period.
After creating a new Beef: Pasture herd, you will be shown the ‘Breeding Livestock’ tab. This tab lists all of the possible livestock classes that might be in your herd. All classes are deactivated by default.
To activate a livestock class, click the switch next to its name. Once activated, an ‘edit’ button will appear to the right of the name. Click on the ‘edit’ button to add more information about your active livestock classes.
This screen shows a table with 13 rows - 1 for each month of the herd’s timeframe, plus an extra month that precedes the herd timeframe’s first month (more on that later).
The columns of the table are:
The table works by asking how many animals of that class were in the herd at the start of its timeframe, then if there were any changes to the population. It calculates the rest of the 12 months automatically.
For example, your herd might have 100 cows in January, then 30 were sold in April, 25 aged in during October and one dies in November.
