Summary
The Land Use section shows how areas of the property have been changed to accommodate different applications, such as cropping.
How to use this information
Use this information to:
- See how the land on the property was used, and whether any land use types were preferred by the property owner
- Identify any changes in land use (particularly short-term changes) for further investigation
Components
- Chart showing land use change over time for the last 20 years. The proportion of different detected land use types are displayed for each year.
- Table showing detected land use for the current year:
- Type of land use
- Area in hectares
- Percentage of the total property
- Table showing three types of map imagery that describe land use from one day of each year going back to 2017:
- ‘Red green and blue (RGB)’: Capture of RBG light bands as per a typical digital camera
- Land use: The same ‘Land Use’ analysis mentioned earlier, for each year
- Normalised difference vegetation index (NDVI)
Useful to know
Property owners change land use for different reasons. Some examples are:
- Avoiding planting crops when rainfall is low
- Planting a larger area of crops to take advantage of better rainfall
- Clearing land to make space for more livestock or crops
- Leaving paddocks to go fallow to ‘rest’ the soil
Timing of satellite imagery capture
The annual satellite imagery is captured at the same time of year around the target date range of August 1 to October 31, and the first day with the least cloud interference is chosen.
